Melissa grew up in Louisiana. She obtained her undergraduate nursing degree from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. Shortly after, she moved to Austin, TX and began her nursing career as a medical-surgical/telemetry RN at the University Medical Center at Brackenridge. She later worked in outpatient endoscopy, home health, endocrinology, and cardiac electrophysiology. She went back to school to become a family nurse practitioner and obtained both her Master’s and Doctorate from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, KY, graduating summa cum laude, and was inducted into the Chi Pi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as an advanced practice registered nurse with prescriptive authority. Over the course of her career, she has been issued several awards for demonstrating outstanding service in sensitivity, mentoring, accountability, respect, and teamwork (i.e., ‘SMART’ awards). In 2018, she was recognized as a Top Doctor of Nursing Practice in Texas by the International Nurses Association Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare.
Melissa has long been a wellness enthusiast. She was drawn to nursing, in part, due to the holistic nature of the nursing model of care. She recognizes individuals as multifaceted and complex, taking into account the mind, body, and spirit when addressing patients’ health and well-being.
“My main objective is to educate patients, providing them with the tools necessary to make empowered decisions and take control of their health. I also want to impart a sense of genuine caring and compassion to bring patients comfort and provide the best possible healthcare experience.”
When she is not working, Melissa loves to cook and play board games. For exercise, she likes to cycle and walk with her husband and dogs. Other interests include mindfulness, green living, and travel.
