About Samuel E. Rivera

Samuel E. Rivera, MD, was recognized as an outstanding student at Rice University where he graduated with a degree in biochemistry. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and completed an internal medicine internship at Baylor College of Medicine and an internal medicine residency at University of Texas Medical Branch. He also completed two fellowships -- one in community medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and one year of cardiology at the University of Virginia/Salem VAMC Program. Throughout his medical training, he earned numerous awards and honors.

Dr. Rivera, who is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, is board certified in internal medicine and has been recognized by the Bridges to Excellence Diabetes Care program for exceptional performance in caring for patients who have diabetes. Dr. Rivera has participated in clinical research, particularly focused on care for patients with hypertension. His special interests centers around preventive medicine, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dementia, geriatric care and general internal medicine. He is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Rivera is an avid sports fan. In his spare time, he likes to dabble with the guitar, go to the gym and listen to salsa music.
